THE DINNER
Who chooses work over fun when we can actually enjoy both? I mean, take a break from the meetings with your business partners and have a proper date. Sounds like what I’m about do (laughs).
On a very cool Wednesday evening….
Lady at the doorstep of the house wearing a colored mini dress, a sneakers to complement and a bag to fit. Not bad for a date, yeah? Simplicity makes life easy.
(Lady knocks on the door)
Man: (opens the door with a grin on his face). Hey!
Lady: hey!
Man: you look amazing.
Lady: (smiles). Thank you, you’re not looking bad yourself. Can I come in?
Man: Oh, yeah, sure. Forgive my manners (shuts the door). This way please. I hope you did not have a hard time finding your way here (smiles while dragging out a chair for her to sit)
Lady: (still smiling) Thank you. No, I’m a little familiar with this area, one of my clients live close by.
Man: Oh, I see. So, what do I offer you, red wine, champagne, orange juice, but please don’t tell me water (chuckles)
Lady: (laughs) anything at all, but not water (they both laugh)
(Man goes to the kitchen and then back with a bottle of wine and two glasses)
Lady: Your house is really beautiful. I’m impressed.
Man: Thank you. Coming from you, it means a lot. That reminds me, you do well with business as a woman, competing with men in big businesses is an achievement, you know. So how do you do it?
Lady: (sarcastically) looks like I’m in for a business interview rather than a date. Well, I learnt from my dad and did a few professional courses on business administration. I got into few businesses in school and tried to build myself. Its been working for me. Asides that, God has been good to me. No more questions on business (chuckles).
Man: (smiles and stares at her for a while) you look really beautiful.
Lady: Thank you. (A lttle silence) So, how do you cope with being a bachelor. With work and all the chores. Where’s our woman?
Man: (laughs) so you think if there was anyone, I’d invite you over. There is no woman. I pay people to do these things for me.
Lady: men will always be men, you know. Good for you though,
Man: yeah. So what of you?
Lady: my life is somewhat boring. Just work and family. I haven’t really been in a longlasting relationship. I’m just too career driven that I forget I’m getting older yearly (laughs).
Man: (laughs) I sense the pressure of your mum on you right now. “where is your husband” “you know you are getting old” (they both laugh out loud) I can imagine.
Lady: (still laughing) you are not even wrong. All on my neck. Telling me to quit what I’m doing and settle for a man and all…
Man: really, you need to think about it.
Lady: I am trying honestly, the thing is I haven’t even found som…
(man cuts in)
Man: I like you. I really like you. (an intense background song plays). I’m sorry it took long to tell you or even show. I tried though but you were all into your business and that was all that mattered to you. Ever since we became partners, I’ve not been able to get you off this silly head.
Lady: (blushes and dumbfounded) really… I don’t know what to say.
Man: you don’t have to say anything, just a chance to prove myself to you and how much I’m ready to enter your matter (smiles).
(She smiles too. Man approaches her, takes her by the hand. Lady stands. Man still holding her hand, gently drags her closer to him and BAM!!!!! Nepa takes light.)
